For the last few months, I have been coughing like crazy. I get this wheezing and gurgle sound in my lungs whenever I breathe in.
This would then cause me to violently cough. Sometimes the violent coughing would be so bad that it would cause me to throw up.
When the coughing did not go away, I called my doctor, and he prescribed some medication for an upper respiratory infection. I took it for the full prescribed time, and my symptoms did not improve.
One day my coughing got so bad that my family forced me to go to the hospital.
Whenever I have a condition that is not improving, my mind starts to get negative.

At the hospital, my mind went to a negative place. I started thinking, “What if I have pneumonia or worse yet, what if I have CANCER?”
The doctors at the hospital found nothing wrong with me. So, I contacted my cardiologist.
I recently had been placed on some medication. The cardiologist said that new medication could cause breathing problems and coughing. He said he was going to change my medication.
Immediately after changing the medication, my coughing almost completely disappeared.
Originally, my mind went to the worst possible place, and the solution was actually, pretty easy.

In dentistry, I see a similar thought process all the time.
Many people have fallen out of the habit of going to the dentist. After the pandemic, some people stopped going to the dentist. Others have seen their dentists retire over the last few years.
These 2 things have left a record number of people without a dental home.
The main thing that is keeping people from seeking out a new dental home is the amount of time that has passed by since their last dental visit. Many people have had years go by without a dental checkup and now they are thinking of the worst case scenarios.
But the reality is that most of the patients we see that have had a big lapse in their dental care are not that bad. They may have some things that need to be cleaned up, but for the most part, they can get back on track.
The hardest part is making that first call, then coming in and getting a plan in place. Start there. Make the call.
If you or someone you know has not made an appointment with the dentist in a long time and are looking for a new dental home, send them our way. Have them contact us at mydente.com or call 773-292-1911 to schedule their appointment today!
