The Candy Inspector

I was never a big Halloween guy. I was the kid that would make up a costume at the last second. My dad had a Shell gas station, so I would wear his Shell uniform and say I was a gas station attendant.

Not a lot of thought but it got me through Halloween. I was not that into dressing up but I was definitely about the CANDY!!!!

We would go out with massive bags and collect hundreds of pieces of candy.

I always thought the houses that gave out pennies or fruit were absurd. I always made a mental note to avoid those houses the following year.

When we were done with our hours of candy collection, my mom made us put all our candy on the bed. My mom would then inspect every piece of candy before we were able to add to the “I can eat this candy” pile.

She was worried that someone would place a razor blade or poison the candy. She probably read that this happened somewhere in Ohio or something like that.

We all have a strategy on how to do certain things. Today, the new strategyon how to run a dental office is the corporate model.

That model goes like this:

Get the patient in and out as fast as possible because time is money.

The system is the attraction, similar to McDonalds. Patients go to their dental appointments, and many times see a different dentist each time they go.

This makes it difficult to develop a close relationship with your provider.

Many of the providers/dentists are right out of school with little dental experience. So the turnover in the offices is high.

Many times, the staff is always changing, and it's hard to develop a go-to-person when you need insurance and treatment questions answered.

At Dente, it’s a completely different experience. Dente was founded almost 20 years ago. The founding dentist, me, Emilio Couret, treats each and every patient.

Many of our patients have been with us the entire time we have been open. We have seen them and their entire family grow.

This is an ol’ school way of treating our patients but that’s how I like it.
