The Home Alone House

Yesterday, I wrote about how we went to Homer’s Ice Cream in Wilmette.

We took Finn and my niece, and they both loved it. They are already asking when we are going to go back.

One of Finn’s favorite movies is Home Alone. I knew that the house that was used for that movie was only a few blocks away from the ice cream store.

I asked Finn if he wanted to see the house that was used in the movie and he enthusiastically said YES.

We plugged in the address, and our Google Maps took us to the house within minutes.

When we arrived at the house the street was already full of people taking photos in front of the Home Alone house. But the house looked different.

The house recently went up for sale and the new owners had removed the black shutters on the house.

The adjacent houses were different than the houses in the movie.

Actually, everything looked different than I had imagined. This happens a lot to us.

I'll admit to you, for a cosmetic case at Dente, a lot of times I’m not sure how it will look until I test it out in the patient’s mouth.

I have an idea in my mind but until I put in the proposed smile enhancement over the patients’ existing teeth, I’m not positive.

Here’s the thing, in our mind something looks one way but in real life it has another image.

I always test out a patients’ smile with temporary teeth. This means we will create an ideal smile for the patient with a plastic material that replicates the smile we want. Then I will place it into the patient’s mouth.

This will allow the patient and myself to see if they like the proposed changes. Also, it will give the patient a “test drive” of their new smile before we move forward to a final smile.

This gives everyone involved with the smile transformation, a clear vision of what the size, color and shape of the final teeth will look like. If we want to make any changes, it’s done on the temporaries right in the chair and then replicated in the final restorations.
